While enjoying our morning coffee on the terrace, our dogs suddenly start barking. In the middle of the garden path, a baby white-breasted hedgehog has curled up into a ball, which it shouldn't be doing at this time of day. Since we had already rescued another young hedgehog two days earlier, we took it to the office for a closer look.
The little white-breasted hedgehog weighed almost 270 grams, appeared healthy, and was completely free of ticks. She was stronger than ‘Mr. Moody’, whom we had found in the garden two days earlier, and was christened ‘Fat Berta’.
The welcome snack was some wet cat food. Apparently, the smell was so irresistible that ‘Fat Berta’ forgot all her table manners and greedily and unladylike devoured her food. ‘Mr. Moody’ also seized the opportunity to come out of his straw cave and grab a few bites.
